What this site collects

DarkSkyCheck needs no account and collects no personal information to show a city's sky-brightness figure. Like almost every website, the hosting and analytics infrastructure automatically logs standard technical data, IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps, for security and aggregate traffic measurement. That data is aggregated and is not used to identify anyone individually.

Cookies

Analytics cookies may be set to tell a repeat visit from a new one. No cookie here builds an advertising profile unless a display-advertising network is active, in which case that network's own cookie and privacy disclosures apply and will be linked from this page once live.

Advertising and affiliate links

This site earns nothing from ads or affiliate commissions today. If that changes, this paragraph and the relevant page's disclosure line are updated together, deliberately, so an affiliate relationship can never go live silently.

Third parties

Sky-brightness figures are derived from NOAA/EOG and Census data, both public agencies; no personal data is exchanged with them. Hosting is provided by Firebase (Google). No data collected here is sold to third parties.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA and similar statutes in other US states give you the right to know what personal information a site has about you, to have it deleted, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. DarkSkyCheck does not sell or share personal information and does not knowingly collect anything beyond the standard technical logs described above, so there is little to act on, but to ask what has been logged, request deletion, or exercise any other right you have under the law that applies to you, email hello@darkskycheck.com.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
